Fall 2008 Advisement and Registration Information

Student Responsibility: You are responsible for the applicable information contained in the class schedule. Registration is your personal responsibility. You will receive credit only for those courses in which you are properly registered. Likewise, you must pay for every course for which you register unless you officially cancel.

Students who do not comply with the payment deadline, will have their registration dropped on the assumption that they do not plan to attend. This may open full classes for students who plan to attend. New students (freshmen and transfers) are required to make a $100 down payment before registering.

Important Note: E-Hive registration concludes at midnight before the first day of classes each and every semester. You then need to add/drop classes at the Registrar's Office in Old Main, Room 139. Registration hours are 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

The Administrative Drop Policy does not apply during Summer College.

Advisement Information

Undergraduate Students - New freshman and transfer students should contact the Center for Advising, Career and Disability Services Office, Main 134, at (715) 394-8515 to declare their major and receive their advisor assignment. New students will receive their advisor's office phone number and instructions for scheduling an advisement appointment and Math and English Placement Tests if necessary. If you wish to change your major, minor, or advisor, you should complete the Change of Major/Advisor form, which is available in the Center Office, Main 134. If you have questions or need help with advising, stop in the Center Office, Main 134, or contact (715) 394-8515.

Graduate Students - Graduate students are assigned advisors when admitted to graduate studies. Students are expected to stay in frequent contact with their advisors. Stop by McCaskill 102, or call (715) 394-8295.

Advisement and Registration Procedures

You are responsible for all instructions that apply to your advisement and registration. Graduate students seeking a degree or certification should discuss their program of studies with their advisor before choosing courses. Prior to registration, new graduate students must have an application on file with the Graduate studies Office. Students who did not register the previous term must file a re-entry application (reverse side of "Course Request Form") one week prior to registration.

Undergraduate students must make an appointment to see their academic advisor to plan your class schedule and to have your "See Advisor Hold" released by your advisor. Check your E-HIVE account for your enrollment appointment time and to see if there are any other holds placed against your record that may prohibit you from registering. You should plan on registering at your appointed time to avoid long lines and closed classes at the registration stations. Students with holds will not be able to register at the Registrar's Office or on-line via the E-HIVE until the hold(s) have been taken care of and removed.

If you have questions about your Enrollment Appointment time or a hold, contact the Center Office, Main 134, for assistance. To change your address, complete a "Change of Address" form available online and at the Registrar's Office. You may change your mailing address on your E-HIVE account. If you do not want your address or telephone number available to the public, complete the "Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information" form available online and at the Registrar's Office.

Advisement - Consult with your academic advisor for assistance in planning your academic program. If you don't know who your advisor is, check your E-Hive account under advisor in the "For Student" menu or stop in the Center Office, Main 134. Complete the "Course Request Form" in the back of the class schedule. All new, transfer, and reentry undergraduate students must obtain their advisor's signature on the "Course Request Form". Obtain any necessary course approvals for prerequisites or restrictions, class overrides, etc., by contacting the instructor of the course or the department office. "Override Forms" must be presented in person at the Registrar's Office, Main 139, for processing.

Registration Time - You may register on or any time after the date/time designated for your registration. If the department is using permission numbers, they will give a number to allow you to register via the E-HIVE.

In-Person Registration

Present your "Course Request Form" at Main 139, to check for holds (Academic fees, loans owed, fines, etc.) and personal data. When your record has been cleared, you will be permitted to register.

Registration Changes - Changes to your registration may be made following your initial registration. Please use the "Drop/Add Form" available in Main 139.

Course Selection - The validated "Course Request Form" is then processed for course selection. Review the printout of the class schedule to verify accuracy.

Maximum Credit Load - You will not be able to register for more credits than allowed in the credit load schedule found in the class schedule (see "Academic Policies"). Overloads authorized by your advisor or by petition must be processed in person at the Registrar's office.

Officially Registered - You are a registered student if you have one or more courses at the close of the registration period. As a registered student, you are responsible for payment of all fees and for grades in these courses, unless you officially drop them or withdraw from the University by the appropriate deadlines.

Closed/Open Sections - You will not be able to register for a section that is closed. You should be prepared to enter alternate courses from your "Course Request Form" in case primary courses are closed.

Course Prerequisites - Check the prerequisites of courses to see if you meet the requirements. If you register for a course and do not have the required prerequisites, the instructor may require you to drop the course.

Course Restrictions - Some courses have restrictions which limit registration to students meeting certain criteria. You will need written approvals if your registration is not accepted for theses courses.

Time Conflicts - If you attempt to register for overlapping courses, you will receive a message about the time conflict. If you are permitted to register for the course with the conflict, you must register through the Registrar's Office.
