UW-Superior has begun to implement a package of initiatives designed to integrate students into the campus community and its public liberal arts mission. These initiatives offer incoming students a set of experiences that will anchor first-year students within UW-Superior academically, socially, and culturally.
2006-2007
- Implement revised orientation program, including induction ceremony
2007-2008
- Introduction of 10 Freshman Seminar courses
- Implement methods for increased advisor/advisee contact
- Pilot Peer Mentoring Program
- Search for and hire First-Year Experience Coordinator to start on July 1, 2008
2008-2009
- Creation of FYE Advisory Group
- Begin discussion of First-Year Seminar requirement
- Discussion of peer mentoring program and cultural travel opportunities
- FYE Coordinator to develop university-wide convocations centered on "theme of the year" as well as other FYE programs
2009-2010
- Peer Mentor program revamped; utilized in Intro to College Experience course
- Increased number of First Year Seminars(FYS) from 12 to 16 for fall 2010 - added a Distance Learning FYS
- Proposal put forth for FYS requirement by fall 2012
- Expanded SOAR to 1 ½ days for summer 2010; expanded parent/family program
- Implemented Map-Works as an early alert system for freshmen
