Students earn Milwaukee Press Club awards for radio news reporting

Two students take home reporting awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.

Two University of Wisconsin-Superior students who report news for KUWS-FM 91.3 have earned a total of five radio news awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.

The students earned the awards through the club's Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism Competition. The competition was judged by professional journalists and journalism scholars from across the country. The students received their awards at the Milwaukee Press Club's 2011 Gridiron Awards Dinner on May 7 in Milwaukee.

Awards in the collegiate category and students who received them include:

Radio: Best News Story – First place to Laura Podgornik for "Anonymous Sexual Assault Reporting."

Radio: Best News Story – Second place to Joe Cadotte for "Lynching Victims' Graves."

Radio: Best Feature Story – First place to Joe Cadotte for "Saving the Written Word."

Radio: Best Feature Story – Second place to Laura Podgornik for "Sled Dog Psyche."

Radio: Best Newscast – First place to Laura Podgornik for "News at 9" from Nov. 10, 2010.

KUWS is a Wisconsin Public Radio affiliate located at the University of Wisconsin–Superior. Many UW–Superior students work at the station as a co–curricular activity of the university's Communicating Arts Department.

UW-Superior engages students for lifelong learning and rewarding careers through more than 26 undergraduate and graduate programs offered on campus along with degrees offered through distance learning.
