Teacher Education - Secondary Certification

UW-Superior's Teacher Education Department offers a secondary education certification program that prepares students to teach middle school and high school in a variety of subjects. Students also can use this program to prepare to teach pupils from early childhood through the adolescent level in the special areas of physical education, art or music.

Secondary education certification students complete a major or minor in the academic subject in which they wish to teach. They also complete a selection of professional education courses to gain classroom skills and experience. Students can earn a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Science degree, depending on the requirements of individual majors. UW-Superior also offers Broad Field Science Certification and Broad Field Social Studies Certification for students who wish to teach in those areas.

UW-Superior offers a challenging curriculum along with small class sizes, intensive interaction with faculty, and many opportunities to gain experience by working with children on campus, in classrooms, and as a student teacher or teaching intern. The program prepares students for licensure in Wisconsin, and the degree is acceptable in many other states.

UW-Superior has more than 100 years of experience in training teachers. Our Teacher Education Department enjoys an excellent reputation for quality and innovation, and our graduates are highly regarded by their employers.

After earning their bachelor's degree, graduates can continue their education and professional growth throughout their careers with our high-quality graduate programs in reading, instruction, special education, counseling and educational administration.
