JUDGE HEATHER SWEETLAND TO SPEAK AT LEGAL STUDIES & CRIMINAL JUSTICE SENIOR EXPERIENCE MAY 2, 2014

Judge Heather Sweetland, a seventeen year veteran judge for the Sixth Judicial District in Minnesota, will be the luncheon speaker at the Spring 2014 Legal Studies & Criminal Justice Senior Experience on May 2, 2014 in YU 204. Sweetland was appointed to the bench on February 2, 1996 and was re-elected to office five times. She will be retiring from the bench in April 2014. Sweetland graduated from William Mitchell College of Law and Mankato State College. She was a partner attorney in Fillenworth & Sweetland in Duluth, MN, an Assistant Public Defender and a former staff attorney with Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota. She is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and the Federal District Court of Minnesota. Sweetland has been a long-time community leader in her profession serving in many offices of leadership in the Minnesota and District Bar Associations, Minnesota Women Lawyers and many community groups. She has also been a CLE Lecturer on Family Law and Evidence. Judge Sweetland volunteers regularly with Mock Trial as a judge to support young people learning about the law.
