Mock Trial Going to ORCS on March 14-16!

UW-Superior's Black Squad was invited to participate in the Waukegon, IL Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) by the American Mock Trial Association based on their strong finish at regionals as well as their year long record of performance. The super-regional first level of national competition will include top flight universities like University of Minnesota Twin Cities, St. Norbert, Illinois, Northwood, Wheaton, Macalester, Luther University of Chicago, Illinois at Chicago, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Manchester, St. Ambrose, Notre Dame, St. Thomas, Michigan, St. Olaf and Hamline.

The top six teams from this tournament will proceed to the National Mock Trial Tournament in Orlando, FL in April 2014.

Black Squad includes Emmanuel Tucker II, Taylor Tengwall, Andy Hanson, Cody Chaffee, Allison Marble, Yer Vang, Cassandra Foltz Burr, Kyle Johnson and Matt Munkelwitz.

The team is coached by Dr. Maria Cuzzo, Mark Fruehauf, Mary Russell and Julie Benfield. Fruehauf, Russell and Benfield are practicing attorneys in the region and former Mockers.

Between now and ORCS, Coach Cuzzo has issued a challenge to the Mockers and the campus called the Black and Gold-i-Locks Challenge. You may have seen Cuzzo walking around campus with gold hair extensions. For every ballot that Black Squad wins from now until the end of the year, more hair extensions will go into her black hair. There are already 32 extensions on the head. If the team is successful in their aspiration to make it to Nationals, Gold-i-Locks will emerge.

The challenge to the campus is this: for every $25.00 contributed to the UW-Superior Foundation Mock Trial account between now and end of the season, ANOTHER braid will go in the hair. Please consider supporting your Mock Trial team with a generous contribution that will be tax deductible through the Foundation. Send your donations to Foundation at Old Main 237. Mock 'n Roll!!!
