Mock Trial team wins four individual awards at U of M meet

Three UW-Superior Mock Trial squads (22 students) competed in the first invitational of the academic year at the UMNUMB (University of Minnesota) the weekend of October 11-13, 2013.

Mock Trial team wins four individual awards at U of M meet

Three UW-Superior Mock Trial squads (22 students) competed in the first invitational of the academic year at the UMNUMB (University of Minnesota) the weekend of October 11-13, 2013. There was a 22 team field at the invitational.

Cassy (Foltz) Burr won two individual awards as Outstanding Attorney and Outstanding Witness. Jeff Anderson was awarded an Outstanding Attorney award. Jordin Gegare and Emmanuel Tucker II were each awarded Outstanding Witness awards. Very few competing schools had this many individual award winners. Gegare, Tucker and Burr were the top award winners at the invitational.

UW-Superior fielded three squads at the invitational. Team 1001 finished 2 wins-6 losses, Team 1002 finished 4 wins, 3 losses, 1 tie. Team 1779 finished 3 wins, 5 losses. Team 1002 received an honorable mention as a Spirit of AMTA award winner based on their professional and respectful conduct.

The following Mockers earned at least one out standing attorney nomination in an individual round of competition: Yer Vang, Jeff Anderson, Meagan Guptill, Matt Munkelwitz, Taylor Tengwall, Cody Chaffee, Kyle Johnson, Brandon Engblom, Cassy Foltz Burr, Andy Hanson, Randy Bender, and Austin Danula. The following Mockers earned at last one outstanding witness nomination in an individual round of competition: Jeff Anderson, Maddie Smith, Alex Rafael, Allison Marble, Mia Piikula, Kelsey German, Jordin Gegare, Taylor Tengwall, Cody Chaffee, Kyle Johnson, Brandon Engblom, Emmanuel Tucker II, Austin Danula, Jessica Schubring, Cassy Foltz Burr, and Turner Tomczyk. Jessa McLeod is also a member of the Mock Trial team.

The team is coached by Dr. Maria Stalzer Wyant Cuzzo (Academic Advisor, Legal Studies), Mark Fruehauf (Attorney Coach), Julie Benfield (Attorney Coach) and Mary Russell (Attorney Coach).

The team will compete next at the Macalester Trials the first weekend in November 2013.
