UW-Superior's Department of Health and Human Performance offers a broad range of programs that enable students to study physical education, health, health education and exercise science. Students use these programs to launch careers in education, business, sports, personal fitness, public health and other fields. The program also offers minors that are ideal complements to majors in education, health and business.
Physical education major: Prepares students for teaching at a variety of grade and ability levels. Many teachers enhance their employment options by completing minors in coaching, health education or exceptional education (adapted physical education.)
Exercise science concentration: A broad-based program that provides the knowledge and skills needed to acquire a variety of jobs in areas such as adult fitness, industrial medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, pre-physical or occupational therapy or even chiropractic or medical schools. Students gain basic and advanced knowledge of the structure and function of the human body, and nutrition, health and clinical exercise physiology. Students who pursue this major must also complete a minor.
Community health promotion concentration: Focuses on fitness, health and disease prevention. Students selecting this program often pursue public health careers, such as federal food inspector or sanitarian.
