Dr. Pamela Bowen Bustos joined the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 2002, where she serves as Director of Bands and Instrumental Music Education. Her duties include conducting the Symphonic Band, teaching conducting, clarinet, woodwind techniques, band and orchestra literature and instrumental methods as well as supervising student teachers. Before joining the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Dr. Bustos spent five years as the Director of Bands and professor of clarinet and saxophone at the University of Minnesota, Morris and eight years as the Band and Orchestra Director at Mabel and Cove Creek Elementary Schools in North Carolina. 

Dr. Bustos earned Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees from Appalachian State University of Boone, North Carolina. During this time, she also had the privilege of studying with several prominent conductors throughout the United States including Joe Brashier (Appalachian State University), Jerry Junkin (University of Texas at Austin), Eugene Corporon (University of North Texas), and Stanley DeRusha (Butler University). Upon the completion of Master of Music Degree Dr. Bustos spent the next two years at the University of Northern Colorado of Greeley, Colorado earning the Doctorate of Arts Degree in Wind Band Conducting and a secondary in clarinet performance, studying with conductor Dr. Kenneth Singleton and clarinetist Thomas Massey. 

Dr. Bustos is actively involved in conducting, commissioning and editing the band music of numerous composers in Latin America including Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Mexico. Dr. Bustos has served as guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Brazil. Dr. Bustos' endeavors in South American band music have resulted in an exchange program that she developed with the Conservatorio de Tatui, Brazil established in 2001. Following this exchange, her South American endeavors have included serving as guest lecturer and conductor at the first South American Conference of Band Conductors and Composers in November 2002 and as guest conductor of the Winter Band Festival in Tatui, Brazil in July 2003. Most recently, she served as a conductor at the second South American Conference of Band Conductors and Composers in November, 2004 in Tatui, Brazil. Dr. Bustos is currently serving as the coordinator of the 2005 University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department Brazil Cultural Exchange. This endeavor is the second event in an ongoing exchange that began in January 2004. This 2005 event involves the participation of over 120 students and music faculty in performances, master classes and other cultural events. Dr. Bustos is also currently working on a collaborative recording project with Dr. Kenneth Singleton and the University of Northern Colorado Wind Ensemble to create a CD highlighting band music of Latin American composers to be released in the Fall of 2006.
