Jazz Ensemble

Director: Dr. Greg Kehl Moore            Jazz Concert

The Jazz Ensemble is a 17-piece big band showcasing the improvisational and ensemble talents of UW-Superior students. Stylistic variety is the hallmark of this group, which includes modern jazz, latin jazz, romantic ballads and classic big-band standards.

The Jazz Ensemble performs frequently during the school year, kicking things off with the Tri-Sate Honor Band Festival in November, holding campus concerts , appearing at area high schools, and performing at the annual UW-Eau Claire JazzFest in March.

Curriculum at UW-Supeiror is geared toward the needs of the student, and the Jazz Program is no exception. Participating students have many outlets for musical expression and learning within the jazz idiom. In addition to ensembles, private and group instruction in jazz improvisation, jazz arranging/composing and jazz appreciation are available to all students with an interest in the jazz art form.

Jazz Performance Student-led jazz combos also have multiple performance opportunities both on and off campus. Particularly popular are the noontime "Jazz Lunch" concerts held in the snack bar of Rothwell Student Center. Combos are the "chamber music" of jazz and allow extensive opportunities for improvisation, aiding in the development of the musical personality of each player.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Jazz Ensemble, please contact Dr. Greg Kehl Moore.
