Danilo & Ladies

Led by Dr. Vicki Fingalson, Opera Workshop provides performance-based practical instruction in stagecraft to auditioned singers as it pertains to opera, operetta, and musical theatre.  Students develop and improve their performance skills through the use of theatre games, observations, discussions, improvisations, and the rehearsal, preparation, and performance of selected scenes from opera, operetta, and music theatre.  In addition, students are given the opportunity to see and hear live professional opera several times during the year - often at no cost to the student!

The 2013-14 school year will include the preparation and performance of Mozart's The Magic Flute.  The all-student cast will be accompanied by orchestra, and will be performed in Thorpe Langley Auditorium at 7:30 pm on April 9 & 10, 2014

In 2012, the UWS Opera Workshop presented the highly anticipated and successful production of the classic Viennese operetta by Franz Lehar, The Merry Widow.  And in 2010 the UWS Opera Workshop presented The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan.

Alternating years culminate in a Scenes Performance featuring all student singer-actors performing in 2-3 scenes each, with the opportunity to perform a leading role in at least one of those scenes each semester.

Please contact Dr. Vicki Fingalson if you are interested in auditioning for Opera Workshop. Students of any major are welcome to audition!
