Opera Workshop

The Mikado Act 1 Finale

Led by Dr. Vicki Fingalson, Opera Workshop provides performance-based practical instruction in stagecraft to auditioned singers as it pertains to opera, operetta, and musical theatre.  Students develop and improve their performance skills through the use of theatre games, observations, discussions, improvisations, and the rehearsal, preparation, and performance of selected scenes or fully-staged productions from the opera, operetta, and music theatre repertoire.

The 2011-12 school year will include the preparation and performance of Franz Lehar's well-known operetta, The Merry Widow.  This all-student cast will be accompanied by orchestra conducted by Dr. Erin Aldridge, with stage direction by Dr. Fingalson.   Performance dates are:  April 4 & 5, 2012 in Thorpe Langley Auditorium.

In addition, opera workshop students are given the opportunity to see and hear live professional opera several times during the year - at no cost to the student!

Please contact Dr. Vicki Fingalson if you are interested in auditioning for Opera Workshop. Students of any major are welcome to audition!
