Dr. Erin Aldridge, a gifted musician and performer who teaches at UW-Superior, received the Community Enrichment Award from The Depot Foundation in Duluth.

Aldridge received the award at the foundation's annual Circle of Friends Celebration held Thursday, Oct. 18, at the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center in Duluth. She was among eight people honored with Arts and Culture Awards for their contributions to strengthening arts and culture in the region around the Twin Ports.

"I'm truly honored that they think I'm worthy of receiving this award," Aldridge said. "It's especially meaningful because it's recognition of work done in the community. We have such a special community that celebrates and supports the arts. Because I receive so much support from the community, I love to give back. To be recognized for that is very meaningful to me."

Aldridge has won numerous awards as both soloist and chamber musician and has been featured throughout Europe, South America, and the United States. A member of UW-Superior's music faculty since 2003, she is an associate professor of violin, director of the UW-Superior Chamber Orchestra and a member of faculty trio Trillium.

In addition, Aldridge serves as concertmaster and first violinist for the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. She teaches, performs and conducts throughout the community and throughout the Midwest.

The Depot Foundation's Community Enrichment Award recognizes people for their "bold steps taken to strengthen the arts and culture of our region."

In presenting the award, the foundation noted, "Erin Aldridge teaches, performs, participates, and gives of her time and talents to the region over and over again. As concertmaster of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, she provides leadership within her section, and is a major figurehead for the entire orchestra. Erin has won numerous awards as both a soloist and chamber musician and has been featured throughout the world."

"Erin also shares her talents on the campuses of UMD, UW-Superior, and the community. She works with students, in the schools and with the DSSO Youth Symphony. She has brought her talents to Lakeshore, playing for residents who don't always have the opportunity to attend concerts," the foundation said.
