World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department

Chinese - Minor

UW-Superior's Chinese program introduces students to the Chinese language and culture. It seeks to educate students to become more effective participants in the global community by promoting international and ethnic awareness and sensitivity to other cultures.

Courses enable students to lay the groundwork for fluency in Chinese and to enhance their practical language skills for specific career purposes. Students can complete a minor in Chinese by earning 21 course credits in beginning, intermediate, and advanced Chinese language, Chinese conversation, and Chinese civilization and culture.

Proficiency in speaking Chinese is a skill in demand worldwide. A minor in Chinese can be combined with majors such as Business Administration, Transportation and Logistics Management, or Political Science to lay the groundwork for a career working in East Asia or working in the United States for companies doing business in East Asia. Chinese can open opportunities for careers in government.

The Chinese Program is taught by Dr. Xingbo Li. Dr. Li is a native speaker of Chinese. He has taught English as a Second Language at college in China. He has also taught Chinese to college students, U.S. government employees, as well as executives, directors, and managers from business sectors in the United States.
