
Coaching Minor
Printable version of this fact sheetUW-Superior's Department of Health and Human Performance offers a broad range of programs that enable students to study physical education, health, health education and exercise science. Students use these programs to launch careers in education, business, sports, personal fitness, public health and other fields. The program also offers a wide range of minors that are ideal complements to majors in education and business.
The coaching minor reflects the growing interest in sports and recreational activities, which has increased the demand for trained coaches. Teacher Education students can enhance their career opportunities by adding a minor in health or coaching. A key part of UW-Superior's coaching minor is developing a philosophy to guide coaching decisions, along with identifying and treating sports-related injuries. This minor meets Wisconsin and Minnesota coaching certification requirements.

Program features:
- Programs are based in UW-Superior's 115,000-square-foot Health & Wellness Center. The building is open to all students and features state-of-the-art facilities, including a field house, gymnasium, fitness center, weight room, climbing wall, racquetball courts, swimming pool, exercise and physiology lab, computer lab, classrooms and training room.
- Education students work jointly with UW-Superior's highly regarded Teacher Education Department. Students begin working with children early in their academic careers.
- Students benefit from hands-on experience and personal attention from instructors.
- Numerous scholarships opportunities for teacher education and physical education students.
- Opportunities to gain practical experience with UW-Superior athletic teams as a player, assistant coach or athletic trainer.
- UW-Superior offers a wide range of NCAA Division III athletic teams for men and women.
