Many students choose to combine this major with another major or a minor in areas such as business, political science, history or geographic information systems.
Economics involves the study of social issues such as unemployment, inflation, pollution, poverty and economic growth. By learning how to analyze and solve economic problems in a concise and logical manner, students acquire skills that are helpful in almost any career.

Course descriptions
The UW-Superior Advantage:
- Many internship opportunities are available in the Superior-Duluth metro area. Faculty members are committed to helping economics majors find challenging internships that provide valuable job experience and career advancement.
- Students work closely with faculty members.
- Upper-level courses typically have eight to 15 students. Small classes mean more time to work one-on-one with professors.
- Many students choose to add an additional major such as business administration, accounting or geography.
Career Outlook:
Employment of economists is expected to grow about as fast as the average over the next decade, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Opportunities for economists should be best in private industry, especially in scientific research and development, and consulting firms, as more companies contract out for economic research services.Rising demand for economists should stem from the growing complexity of the global economy, competition, and increased reliance on quantitative methods for analyzing and forecasting business, sales, and other economic trends. More advanced career positions may require a master's or doctorate degree.
