
Geology
Printable version of this fact sheetUW-Superior offers two options related to geology.
First, our Physical Environmental Science minor provides a strong background in geology, hydrology, chemistry and geographic information systems. This is a particularly good minor for students interested in areas such as hydrogeology and environmental remediation.
Second, we offer a Water Resource Management minor that enables you to study one year at Vermilion Community College in Ely, Minn., then complete your studies at UW-Superior. This is an excellent opportunity to combine a major in biology or chemistry with this 22-credit minor that includes courses on geology, chemistry and biology.

Program features:
- Students completing these minors benefit from UW-Superior's strong geology, biology and chemistry programs that emphasize field work and undergraduate research.
- Small classes with personal attention from faculty members, all of whom are experienced scholars and researchers.
- Students benefit from the environmental resources of the Lake Superior region and the program's close working relationships with regional research laboratories. Field and laboratory research experience and internships are provided through cooperation with UW-Superior's Lake Superior Research Institute, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and faculty research grants.

- Sixty-two-foot research vessel available for student jobs and research on Lake Superior and the adjoining waters.
- Opportunity to work at the Lake Superior Research Institute, located on campus
- Science students may qualify for Swenson Scholarships that pay tuition and books for four years.
Career Outlook:
Environmental issues are critical to society. People with knowledge of these issues will be needed to work on solutions for business and government. While a minor in Physical Environmental Science may be adequate for teaching, some career fields related to geology may require graduate study.We invite you to visit:
