Printable version of this fact sheetUW-Superior's history program offers a distinctive global focus available at few universities. By examining the struggles and triumphs of people around the world, students learn how their experiences shape our own. The program emphasizes critical thinking, analysis and communication as keys to finding meaning in the past and its relationship to the future. All students complete a capstone project in historical research or writing.
The History major requires 33 credits that include courses from at least seven of nine areas: U.S. history, world history, European history, African history, Latin American history, Asian history, Middle Eastern history, gender history, and historiography and methodology. This major requires students to complete the foreign language requirement.
The History -- Secondary Education major is intended for students who want to teach history in middle schools or high schools.
The Broad Field Social Studies major with a History Concentration is a comprehensive liberal arts major that includes courses in areas such as anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology and sociology. Students who wish to use this major as preparation for a teaching career must complete Wisconsin Teacher Certification requirements.
