Printable version of this fact sheetUW-Superior's Political Science program focuses on using knowledge to serve people in our community, state and country as well as around the world. It offers a broad range of course offerings, internships and co-curricular activities. Faculty members challenge students to engage in critical thinking, develop and refine analytical skills, practice clear reasoning, and exhibit solid writing and speaking skills. Students prepare for a wide variety of careers in government, business, public service, media, interest groups, and political parties as well as graduate study or law school.
Students interested in teaching Political Science at the high school level are encouraged to consider the Broad Field Social Studies Major with a Political Science Concentration. Broad Field Social Studies is a comprehensive inter-disciplinary major designed specifically for students who intend to teach within the social studies disciplines at the secondary level.

- The program offers a wide array of courses dealing with traditional and contemporary areas, including American politics and law, international relations, diversity, comparative politics and political theory.
- Faculty members continually evaluate the curriculum to ensure the program is challenging, relevant and rigorous.

- The Superior-Duluth metro area provides many different opportunities for internships, especially in the areas of local government and law. Students also can hold internships at the state and federal levels, and in other countries.
- Courses are offered frequently to aid student scheduling.
- Students have opportunities to participate in student organizations such as Mock Trial team and Model United Nations.
Career Outlook:
Majoring in political science is valuable for students interested in pursuing careers in local, state, tribal or federal government, business, law, teaching, journalism, and military service, or in attending graduate school.
