Fun
When you live in a metro area on the shore
of the world's biggest lake, there's a lot to
do.
Going to college means more
than going
to class. It also means joining
a campus community
where you make new friends, develop
personal interests
and have fun.
At UW-Superior you'll find many student
organizations which
focus on areas
such as academics,
hobbies, politics,
and religion.
You can join a club, perform in the choir,
orchestra or band, or be part of
the cast or
crew of a play. Anyone can take part. Our intramural
sports program includes everything from broomball
and basketball to dodge ball and board games.
Beyond campus, Superior and neighboring Duluth
form a rich metro area with 15,000 college students.
Within a few minutes
of campus you can dance,
shop, meet friends at an Internet cafe or go
to performances of a professional symphony and
ballet. You can even curl up in front of the
fireplace at a local bookstore and enjoy a cup
of coffee and a good book. Public transit buses
stop on campus, giving you access to the entire
Superior-Duluth metro area.
If you prefer the outdoors, you can head to
Wisconsin Point
-- about a 10-minute
drive from campus -- and walk the sandy beaches
of Lake Superior. You can skate, bike, run or
walk on miles of paved waterfront trails in
Superior and neighboring Duluth. You also can
use our Superior Outdoor Adventure Program to
explore Lake Superior and the vast forests of
our region.
Our Superior Outdoor Adventure Program offers
low-cost guided
trips for camping,
canoeing, hiking, skiing and snowboarding, and
rock climbing. It's a great way to explore our
region and meet people who share a love of the
outdoors. You can join an experienced guide
in kayaking to the sea caves along the shore
of Lake Superior, or get a birdseye view of
the big lake by scaling the cliffs along Minnesota's
North Shore. Winter doesn't stop us,
either. You can
join a group on a ski trip or take part in a
snowshoe hike to the awesome ice caves of Lake
Superior.
For skiiers and snowboarders
UW-Superior is within a 20-minute drive of
the Spirit Mountain
and Mont du Lac
ski areas -- close
enough that you can go to class in the morning
and still be on the slopes by lunchtime.

For weekend roadtrips,
we're about a two-hour drive from the Midwest's
best skiing and snowboarding areas in Upper
Michigan (Blackjack, Big Powderhorn and Indianhead)
and about a three-hour drive from Minnesota's
Lutsen Resort.
For cross-country skiiers, the Superior Municipal
Forest, Spirit Mountain and city trails in neighboring
Duluth offer miles of forest trails ranging
from beginner to expert. You're also just a
90-minute drive from the world-famous Birkebeiner
ski race held each winter in Hayward, Wis.
