Frequently Asked Questions

These are questions that prospective graduate students frequently ask about UW-Superior. If your questions aren't answered here, please contact our Graduate Studies Office.

How big is your graduate program?
Overall enrollment at UW-Superior is about 2,800 students. Of that, about 300 are full- or part-time graduate students.

Are all courses taught on campus?
Course presentation options vary according to the program and instructor. Numerous graduate courses are offered online. The education programs also frequently offer courses through interactive video that can be viewed at several locations throughout northern Wisconsin. The Educational Administration program offers some courses at other University of Wisconsin campuses, such as Eau Claire and Stevens Point.

Is there a time limit on completing a graduate degree program?
Yes. All credits used in meeting the requirements of a graduate degree or certification program must be earned within a period of not more than 10 consecutive years, commencing with the enrollment date in courses applicable to the degree.

Do you accept transfer credits?
You may transfer a maximum of 14 semester credits (equivalent to 21 quarter credits) into your graduate program at the UW-Superior. These credits must meet the requirements of your graduate program and be approved by your faculty advisor and the Graduate Studies program. These credits must be graduate level, from an accredited institution, not a correspondence course, not used for a prior degree, and less than seven years of age at the time of graduation.

What libraries are available for research?
Jim Dan Hill Library at UW-Superior provides 285,000 volumes, more than 1,000 periodicals and online access to databases and library catalogs. As a UW-Superior student you also have access to all other libraries in the University of Wisconsin System. UW-Superior students also may use the libraries at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Public libraries in Superior and Duluth maintain extensive collections of books, periodicals and government documents.

What facilities do you have for students who commute?
Rothwell Student Center has a large, quiet lounge area where you can study, relax or nap. There are computer labs in the building, or you can use computer labs in Jim Dan Hill Library, Old Main and other academic buildings. Rothwell Student Center offers food service in its cafeteria, snack bar and Coffee Nook. The Health & Wellness Center offers state-of-the-art fitness facilities at no additional fee for students. Our residence halls offer a limited number of rooms that students can rent for a night if necessary.

Do you offer services for the disabled?
UW-Superior offers an array of disability-related programs and services through its Disabilities Support Services Office. We recommend that requests for these programs and services be made as soon as possible by contacting the office at (715) 394-8288 or disability@uwsuper.edu

What about campus safety?
UW-Superior is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Walkways and parking lots are well lighted and equipped with emergency telephones. Campus safety officers are on duty around the clock and will escort students when requested.
