
AGREEMENT FOR
TRANSFER BETWEEN
Mesabi Community College
AND THE
University of Wisconsin - Superior
I. The Mesabi Community College, Virginia, Minnesota, is a part of the Arrowhead Community College System. Currently Mesabi Community College is an independent campus in the Minnesota State System. Its original accreditation as part of the Arrowhead Community College System was approved by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The University of Wisconsin System has granted permission for the University of Wisconsin-Superior to continue all aspects of the existing relationship. In the interest of fostering cooperation between our institutions, to better serve the transfer of students from Mesabi Community College to the University of Wisconsin-Superior, hereby enter into this articulation agreement.
II.The following articles delineate the understanding between Mesabi Community College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
A. Students will be encouraged to complete the Associate of Arts or Science degree at Mesabi Community College which will fulfill the UW-Superior lower division general education requirements as long as campus specific stipulations are met. Those stipulations are expressed in terms of the UW-Superior 1996-98 catalog and the 1996-97 Mesabi Community College catalog.
1.Completion of English 111 and 112 at Mesabi Community College which is equivalent to UW-Superior’s English 101 and 102. (If the student will be seeking teacher certification, a grade of C or better is required.)
2.Completion of Math 117 or a higher level math course at Mesabi Community College which is equivalent to UW-Superior’s Math 104 or higher level course.
3.Completion of Speech 101 at Mesabi Community College which is equivalent to UW-Superior’s Communication Arts 110. (If the student will be seeking teacher certification, a grade of C or better is required.)
4.The general agreement refers to all Associate of Arts degrees except non-college parallel technical programs.
B.Students who graduated from Mesabi Community College in the spring term of 1996 or before are subject to the provisions of the articulation and joint admission agreement between the Arrowhead Community Colleges and the University of Wisconsin - Superior. Students who graduate after July 1, 1996 are subject to this articulation agreement between Mesabi Community College and the University of Wisconsin - Superior.
C.Transferring Mesabi Community College students will be treated as though they had been at UW-Superior as freshman and will be given the same priorities and advantages as residential students providing they have met the Associate of Arts or Science degrees at Mesabi Community College excluding non-transferrable technical programs.
D .Representatives of Mesabi Community College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior will explore the development of program to program articulation agreements including Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees.
E. Both institutions agree to monitor the progress of the agreement, evaluate its effectiveness, and make suggestions to modify this agreement.
