New Student Advisement and Registration Process soar

New Freshmen and Transfer students who have earned 21 credits or less will have the opportunity to participate in a special early advisement and registration summer program!

The Summer Orientation Advisement and Registration (SOAR) program is a mandatory, one-and-a-half day event which is designed to provide new students with basic information about academic requirements, areas of study and the opportunity to enroll for fall semester classes early as well as the chance to resolve various questions about financial aid, residence life and living on campus.  As a SOAR participant, you will meet and work with peer mentors and academic advisors to help prepare you for course selection and registration in your fall classes.  Students can even experience a taste of dorm life with an overnight stay in a UWS Residence Hall during their SOAR event!

Who is eligible to participate in a SOAR event?

New students who have been officially admitted, have paid their $100 enrollment fee, and who have submitted all official high school and college transcripts, including in-progress college course work are eligible.  New freshmen who are earning advanced placement credits via an AP test should contact the Center for Academic Advisement and Disability Resources at advise@uwsuper.edu.

First Year Seminars

The First Year Experience is part of a package of initiatives designed to integrate students into the campus community and its public liberal arts mission.  The First Year Seminars, as part of this iniative, is a group of courses designed to introduce first year students to the liberal arts through active and collaborative learning, critical thinking, and reflective judgement

When is SOAR?

For new student convenience, we have scheduled five SOAR events.  The dates are:  May 25-26, June 6-7, 13-14, 22-23, and July 25-26.  Students are required to attend both days of their SOAR event so please schedule your session accordingly.

How do I sign up for a SOAR date?

Eligible students must complete and submit the SOAR Student Reservation form at http://www.uwsuper.edu/advise/forms/soar.cfm .  Students submitting a SOAR Student Reservation form will receive their SOAR confirmation via their UWS email account.  Information on how to access your UWS email account was sent to you with your SOAR informational letter.  If you encounter difficulties accessing your UWS email, contact the UWS Help Desk at 715 394-8300.

What if I can't attend a SOAR session?

Attendance at a SOAR session is mandatory; however, if you cannot arrange to attend a SOAR session due to an extenuating circumstance, contact the Center Office at advise@uwsuper.edu for information about alternative advisement/registration options.
