Tom Hansen

Tom Hansen of Superior, Wis., is a highly regarded television and radio sports reporter who has long focused public attention on Yellowjacket athletic programs. He is inducted into the Hall of Fame as recipient of the Carl Vergamini Award for Contributions to Yellowjacket Athletics, an award named for one of UW-Superior's outstanding and most popular coaches.

Mr. Hansen earned his Master of Arts Degree in Communicating Arts from UW-Superior in 1989. While a student, he spent two years broadcasting Yellowjacket football, basketball, hockey and baseball on radio. He also served as the football team’s sports information director.

After completing his degree, Mr. Hansen became sports director at KBJR-TV in Duluth. A versatile and talented newsman, over the years he has covered everything from high school sports to the Olympics. His peers have recognized his skills by presenting him with numerous awards.

In a media market that has an unusually large number of college sports teams, Mr. Hansen has ensured that Yellowjacket athletic programs receive fair and equal coverage. He has highlighted the achievements of UW- Superior student athletes with game coverage, season previews, and special reports on championship teams.
