UW-Superior Winterfest
A Community Tradition

December 7, 2006

The University of Wisconsin-Superior invited the community to campus for the first Winterfest. Hundreds of adults and children gathered in the Health & Wellness Center to hear campus and community choirs, enjoy games and refreshments, frost cookies, make ornaments, roast s'mores, ride a horse-drawn wagon, chat with Santa Claus and much more. Many local businesses helped out by contributing equipment, supplies or merchandise for the event. You can see more details on the Winterfest website.

Below is selection of photos from the evening. Click on each photo to see a larger image.

Student helpers kept busy handing out free hotdogs and brats.

Children gravitated to the cookie-decorating table.

Singers from Cooper Elementary School, Superior Middle School and Superior High School performed during the evening.

UW-Superior's "Caroling Quartet" sings from landing above the lobby.

Our friend McGruff the Crime Dog receives a hug from one of his many fans.

One of Santa's helpers lends a hand to two children climbing into his sleigh to have their picture taken.

Santa and a young admirer pose for a photo. Rumor has it that during the off season Santa teaches at a well-known Educational Administration program in Wisconsin.

One of UW-Superior's international students helps a youngster create an ornament.

Winterfest drew a full house to the Health & Wellness Center, as shown by the busy lobby.

The field house made a perfect location for choirs, big games and much more.

One of entries in the Gingerbread House Contest was this sweet rendition of Old Main.

Many elves were on hand to hand out candy and good cheer.

International students helped community youngsters have fun and learn a little bit about holiday traditions in other cultures.

Dad helps a youngster get a closer look at the two draft horses that provided the motive power for wagon rides on Catlin Avenue.

A well-stocked fire in front of the Health & Wellness Center made the perfect location for roasting s'mores.

Students in the Campus BBQ Club had fun cooking the hotdogs and bratwurst.

Two sketch artists were on hand to draw caricatures.

Both artists kept busy as a long line of people waited for their turn to be drawn.

Yellowjacket athletes were on hand to sign autographs and do a little black-and-gold face painting, as seen here.

Buzz would never miss an opportunity to welcome people to campus. Here the Winged Wonder greets a little fan.

Youngsters got a chance to try out the climbing wall with the help of trained students.

Mrs. Claus and one of the elves spread more holiday cheer.

Buzz makes an impression on the Jolly Old Elf. The Stupendous Stinger asked Santa for winning seasons for all UW-Superior teams and good grades for all the student-athletes.
