Reunion Weekend began with our second dance in Lake Nebagamon, Wis. More than 120 alumni and their guests attended. Among them were Kirk Nauman, Class of 1999; Chancellor Julius Erlenbach; Dave Anderson, Class of 1978 and Alumni Association Board Chair; and Jamie Bunt, Class of 2002, an Alumni Association board member.

Also there were John McNeil, Class of 1967; Donna Dahlvang; Cindy Fennessey and Anna McNeil, Class of 1963.

Many alumni were on hand...

...to enjoy this popular event...

...and to get the weekend started.

Our band was "Don't Panic."

Before Paul Kending was inducted into the Wall of Service on Friday afternoon, retired Communicating Arts professor Al Katz chats with Louise Manion while retired professor O. Gayle Manion talks with alumna Nancy Johnson, Class of 1969.

During his reception, Paul Kending was greeted by many former students and friends. Here, he speaks with Pete Nordgren, Class of 1974.

Paul Kending displays his Wall of Service plaque after it was presented by Communicating Arts Department Chair Dr. Martha Einerson. Paul was a Communicating Arts faculty member from 1968 to 1994. Among his many accomplishments was getting funding for UW-Superior's first instructional technology.

A well-wisher gives Paul Kending a hug.

We had pretty good weather for Reunion Weekend. Saturday began with rain, but it cleared up right after we canceled the Yellowjacket baseball scrimmage and moved the barbecue into Rothwell Student Center. But a barbecue tastes just as good when you hold it indoors...

...as many alumni discovered.

Leroy Hardy, Class of 1967, wearing the gold shirt, took time out from the barbecue to get his picture taken with Assistant Chancellor Jill Schoer, Chancellor Julius Erlenbach and Alumni Affairs Director Tom Bergh.

Taking a campus tour with a student guide are Donald Johnson, Class of 1967, left; Gene Davenport, Class of 1967, second from left; and Clayton Wallin, Class of 1971. Their route took them past Sundquist Hall, which once was a men's dormitory.

Several alumni gathered to watch a presentation about the new academic building, the new student center and the library renovation project. Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Jan Hanson, standing at left, provided the latest details.

Retired faculty member Dr. Lydia Thering, right, writes down her address for former student Mike Howes, Class of 1979, left, while Duane Smith, who attended 1976-1977, looks on.

On hand for the Student Government Reunion were Joe Stensland, Stephanie Hilton, Class of 2002; Lee Graves, Class of 2000; and Amy Friborg Graves, Class of 2000.

Maybe you can't go home again, but on Saturday night you could go back to the Wood Room (or the Beer Bar, as it also was known.) Part of the Wood Room is now used for storage (although the foot rails for the bar are still in place). But alumni could step inside and reminisce, and then step outside for a refreshment.

More from the Wood Room.

Alumnus Tom Fennessey's crew at the university's Facilities Management department was responsible for resurrecting the Wood Room. Although the entrance gate was a reproduction, they did manage to find a can of the original stain, which was used to lend it an air of authenticity.
