A night of celebration

UW-Superior honors Lois and Siinto Wessman

Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, was a night for celebration as Wessman Arena at the University of Wisconsin-Superior unveiled a new sound system before the evening’s hockey game and honored Lois and the late Siinto Wessman – the two people who made the improvement possible.

A $100,000 gift made in April 2005 from the estate of the late Mr. Wessman – for whom the arena is named – enabled Wessman Arena staff to purchase a new sound system for the entire building. The system, installed in January 2006, improves the clarity of event announcements on the arena floor, in the seating area and in the building’s lobby and meeting rooms.

After the announcement of the new sound system, Mrs. Wessman was recognized by the arena announcer and warmly applauded by the audience. A plaque bearing Mr. Wessman’s likeness and describing his decades of support and service to the university will be placed in the arena’s lobby.
