David Gerber was an outstanding wrestler at UW-Superior. Upon graduation in 1987, he held the record for most individual wrestling wins in a career with 132. In 1984, Mr. Gerber also wrestled in Europe for four weeks on the USA wrestling team, which was coached by Mertz Mortorelli.
After graduation, David Gerber set his sights on coaching and quickly became one of the finest coaches in Wisconsin. As a result, Mr. Gerber is a member of the UW-Superior Hall of Fame class of 2013 as a recipient of the Mertz Mortorelli Coaching Achievement Award.
Mr. Gerber has coached high school wrestling for 26 years at Cameron (Wisconsin) High School, where his teams claimed nine Lakeland Conference championships, three Upper St. Croix Valley Conference championships, seven regional championships and one sectional championship. Mr. Gerber's teams won 208 dual meets and produced 31 individual state meet qualifiers. In 1993 his team placed seventh in the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Meet, then two years later they finished second. More recently, in 2005, Mr. Gerber guided his team to an eighth place finish at the WIAA State Meet.
In 1995 Mr. Gerber was named the Wisconsin Wrestling Coach of the Year. For six years he was the Wisconsin District One Wrestling Coach representative and he also served for two years on the WIAA Coaching Advisory Board.
In addition to wrestling, Mr. Gerber has coached high school baseball for 13 years in Cameron. On the diamond his teams won four Lakeland Conference championships and three regional titles.
