During his college wrestling career, Mr. Laube amassed 110 wins to only 11 losses. Fifty-one of his victories were decided by pinning his opponents. He was runner-up in his weight class in the Wisconsin State University Conference in 1977 and 1979, and champion in his weight class in 1978 and 1980. Among his achievements during 1980, he was named First Team All-American; earned the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national wrestling title in the 177-pound weight class; was named to the NAIA-AAU International Wrestling Team that traveled to Japan; was the Michigan Tech Invitational champion; was the St. Cloud Invitational champion and outstanding wrestler; was NCAA Western Regionals runner-up; and qualified for the NCAA National Championship. His coaches and teammates recognized his abilities by three times awarding him the Most Valuable Wrestler Award and three times naming him team captain.
