Jim Patritto is a 1956 graduate of Hurley (Wis.) High School. He elected to attend UW-Superior, where he earned four letters in basketball from 1956 to 1960 before his graduation in 1961. During the 1959-1960 season he made the All-Conference team as one of the highest scorers in the Wisconsin State College Conference. He was also voted Superior's Most Valuable Player.
Mr. Patritto also earned four letters as a pitcher for the baseball team. During his tenure at UW-Superior, he worked as assistant trainer for Coach Mertz Mortorelli's football team, and was a student assistant basketball coach under Carl Vergamini.
After leaving Superior, Mr. Patritto spent the next 32 years teaching and coaching. He began at St. Ambrose High School in Ironwood, Mich., before returning to his home state to teach elementary school in New London, Wis. He coached the freshman basketball team for three years, leading it to two conference championships. During the '60s he took over the baseball team and compiled a 104-59 record. His final game coaching was in 1976 at the WIAA state tournament.
For the past three years Mr. Patritto has been an assistant varsity boy's basketball coach, finishing as runner-up in the WIAA state tournament in 1998 and State Champions in 1999.
