Herbert R. Schutt Jr. of Bethel Park, Penn., was a premier wrestler at Wisconsin State University-Superior.
As a college wrestler, Mr. Schutt compiled a 39-12-3 record. His accomplishments included placing fifth in his weight class in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics during his freshman year. Wrestling at 157 pounds, he finished first in the conference in 1966 and second in 1967. He placed second in the 1968 Olympic qualifier. His coaches and teammates recognized his contributions to the team by naming him co-captain during the 1967 season.
Mr. Schutt graduated in 1968 with a degree in geography. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve for 23 years and was commanding officer of a Marine Air Support Detachment for three years before retiring with the rank of colonel. During 1969 he wrestled on the All-Marine team in the interservice tournament.
At the time of his induction, Mr. Schutt had been a pilot since 1968, Mr. Schutt and had logged more than 9,000 hours of flight time, including many hours in both multi-engine jet aircraft and helicopters. He joined Corporate Jets Inc. in 1985 as a pilot and eventually became vice president of operations, with responsibility for all of the company's flight operations at 77 helicopter base sites and 14 fixed-wing EMS and airplane charter sites.
