Khieu Provisionally Qualifies for Indoor National Championships

The men's track and field team hosted the Border Battle indoor track & field meet in the Lydia Thering Fieldhouse, which included teams from Wisconsin (UW-Superior, UW-Stout, and St. Norbert College) and Minnesota (St. Scholastica, St. Mary's, and Hamline).

Randy Khieu, FR- (Brooklyn Park, MN- Champlin Park High School) had the men's team top performance of the weekend with his meet, school, and facility record in the long jump.

Khieu's leap of 7.03 meters (23' - 3/4") also provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, and is currently the 7th best jump in the nation.

Other top performances included the men's 4 x 200 meter relay team, which finished in third place with a season's best time of 1:37.33. Three of the four relay team members, Derek Solarz (FR), Tyler Houghton (JR), and Jonny Knight (SO) are from Proctor, MN while Kal Fangmann (JR) is from Ashland, WI.

Later in the meet, Knight qualified for the finals in the 55 meter hurdles with a season best time of 8.93 while Solarz had a season best time in the 55 meters of 6.95.

In the men's mile, Jordan Peterson set a lifetime best with his time of 4:37.90.

The men's team will be in action action on Saturday as St. Scholastica will be hosting the Lake Superior Challenge. On Friday night though, Jonny Knight and Chad Kucza, SO- (Hermantown, MN) will be competing in the pentathlon event, which consists of the 55 meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 1000 meters.
