About:

Paul Nisius enters his fifth season as the head men's and women's cross country and track & field coach at UW-Superior. He comes to the Yellowjackets from Bigfork High School in Bigfork, Minn. where he was the head track & field coach for ten years and taught business education and social studies. In addition, he also coached the Grand Rapids High School cross country program for three years.

A native of Duluth, Minn., Nisius competed at Duluth Central High School. He also competed collegiately in cross country and track & field at the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 1986 - 1990. Nisius won numerous individual Northern Intercollegiate Conference Championships in track & field, including the indoor and outdoor 1500 meters titles both his junior and senior years. He was also the captain of both teams and was named the Athletic Department's Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1990.

While at Bigfork, Nisius had track & field athletes qualify for the Minnesota State High School Meet for eight straight years. At Grand Rapids, the girl's cross country teams won the Minnesota State AA High School Championship in 2000, were state runners up in 2001 and captured third place in 2002.

Nisius graduated from Minnesota-Duluth in 1990 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business Administration and earned Bachelor's of Applied Arts degree in 1992. Coach Nisius also has his USA Track & Field Level II Coaching Certifications in Endurance, Sprints/Hurdles/Relays, and the Multi-Events.

Coaching highlights at UW-Superior include 14 provisional NCAA national qualifying marks, 9 national qualifiers, 4 All-Americans, 2 conference champions, and school records in 41 indoor and 24 outdoor events.

Assistant Coach Glen Drexler

About:

Glen Drexler is entering his sixth season as an assistant coach with the UW-Superior Track and Field program, and is currently the throws and pole vault coach for the Yellowjackets.

Drexler, a native of New Ulm, Minn., competed at Bemidji State University where he competed in the pole vault and javelin.  Drexler achieved all-conference honors in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference five times in the pole vault.

Coach Drexler has been coaching track & field for 13 years and began coaching at the collegiate level in 1999 at Martin Luther College, where he coached four conference champions and 10 all-conference performers.  From there Drexler spent a year at the University of Minnesota Duluth where he coached all conference performances in the pole vault and the multi-events, in addition to having a national qualifier in the pole vault. 

The spring of 2002 brought a chance at a head coaching position and building the St. Scholastica track & field club, which is now a varsity program for both the men and women’s teams.

While at UW-Superior, Glen has coached athletes to eight individual all-conference performances and nine school records.

Glen Graduated from Bemidji State University with a bachelor of fine arts degree.  Glen is a certified USA Track and Field Level 1 coach and is also certified with the Pole Vault Safety Certification Board.  Glen also currently works for Advanstar Communications, Inc. and resides in Duluth, Minn.

 

>Assistant Coach Dale Flankey

About:

Dale Flankey begins his fifth season as an assistant coach at UW-Superior, where he is in charge of the sprinters and hurdlers, along with assisting in the jumps.

Flankey was an all-state hurdler at Cloquet High School with a pair of fourth place finishes at the Minnesota state track & field meet in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.

He also competed at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.  Flankey set one indoor school record at UMD as a member of the 4 x 176 yard relay. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1993.

Prior to coaching at UW-Superior, Flankey was an assistant and head coach at Duluth East High School for seven years, and had numerous hurdlers qualify for the Minnesota State Track & Field Meet.
