The University of Wisconsin-Superior women's hockey team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win over the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers Saturday afternoon at Wessman Arena.
The Cobbers defeated the Yellowjackets 2-1 Friday night.
UWS improves to 2-1 on the season while Concordia falls to 1-1.
After a scoreless first period Saturday, UWS took a 1-0 lead at 15:42 of the second period on Shana Katz's (So.-San Jose, Calif.) power-play goal, which was assisted by Lindsey LeGree (So.-Sioux City, Iowa).
The 'Jackets nearly made it 2-0 early in the third period when Ashley Martin (Fr.-Superior) hit the pipe on a breakaway attempt.
UWS eventually increased its lead to 3-0 later in the third period.
Jessica Tyra (Jr.-Fridley, MN) scored unassisted at 12:32 and Ashley Birdsall (Fr.-Duluth, MN) put home the rebound of Allie Pullar's (So.-Hibbing, MN) shot from the left point less than three minutes later.
The Cobbers spoiled Rikki Nespor's (Sr.-Stonewall, Manitoba) shutout bid with Alyssa Dahl's power-play goal with 15.8 seconds remaining. Kaylee Black assisted on the goal.
Nespor finished with 27 saves, as did Concordia's Maddie Haroldson.
On Friday night, before a crowd of 199, the Yellowjackets scored first when Tyra put home the rebound after shots by Kim Schmeichel (Jr.-Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Katz at 11:53 of the first period.
Concordia tied it up at 7:40 of the second period when Black took a pass from Brit Vander Kooy, got around a UWS defender and beat goaltender Melissa Kunzelman (Jr.-Brandon, Manitoba) with 12:20 remaining in the second period.
The Cobbers' game-winner came with 6:32 remaining in the third period as Emily Sell put home the rebound of a Sara Sonnenberg shot.
Kunzelman finished with 26 saves for UWS and Julie York had 31 for Concordia.
The Yellowjackets are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict. They return home to host Adrian (Mich.) on Nov. 14 and 15.
