UW-Superior Women's Volleyball team put up a battle versus Hamline University on Monday night, but fell short in a four set effort by the scores of 18-25, 25-23, 21-25, and 20-25. The Yellowjackets had its hands full with the Pipers senior outside hitter Tasha Simmons, who was on fire finishing the match with 24 kills. The Yellowjackets had some great offensive efforts in a more balanced attack with senior Chelsie Christofferson leading the way with 18 kills in the match, sophomore Rachel Langer added 10 kills, freshman Lindsay Taipale added 8 kills, and freshman Nikki Gosson with 7 kills.
Defensively the Yellowjackets were everywhere on the floor, digging up a team high 76 digs. Scrappy defense was led by Beka Morton leading with 18 digs, Samantha Blake 16, Audra Stevenson with 11, Christofferson adding 10 digs. Freshman setter Alison Lothenbach put up 41 assists in the match.
"I thought we did some great things" said Coach Lynne Deadrick "We needed to pick up or attack at certain times in the match, as we stopped attacking, giving them an opportunity." "We've continued to make adjustments with our line-up and defense, but their outside hitter was a definite threat and we had difficulty stopping her".
The Yellowjackets will look to travel to Wisconsin River Falls, on Friday, October 30th where they will play UW-Eau Claire at 6:00 pm and Waldorf at 8:00 pm. Saturday, they will face Rockford at 2:00 pm and UW-River Falls at 4:00 pm.
