Career Services will be holding their Resume Drive-Thru on October 6 & 7 from 10:00 am-6:00 pm both days on the Yellowjacket Union Landing. Students can bring their resume to be reviewed and receive job fair advice from those that know best, the recruiters themselves! Recruiters from Target will be on campus October 6 and recruiters from 50 Below on October 7.
The following week on October 13 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm at the University of Minnesota Duluth Kirby Ballroom is the Head of the Lakes Fall Job Fair. The job fair is a general (all majors) held annually and is free and open to current students and alumni from the University of Minnesota Duluth, College of St. Scholastica, and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. A list of attending employers seeking candidates for internships and full-time positions can be viewed prior to attending. UWS will be providing a free shuttle bus at various times throughout the fair. Students are advised to dress professionally.
Fall recruiting season is the busiest time of year for employers as they seek candidates to fill immediate openings and summer internships. According to Betsy Gregg, Career Services Associate, "It's about who you know. With 80% of the job market never posted publicly, it's important to build your network and connect with others." So whether students are in their first year or senior year, job fairs engage students beyond just finding work or an internship. They help to encourage networking with employers and learning more about their field of interest.
In addition to helping students prepare resumes and make connections at job fairs, Career Services offers a number of resources and services including class presentations, collaborative events or activities with academic departments, employer visits, and one-on-one discussions with students about career planning issues.
