The National Association of Campus Employers recently conducted a survey on internships for 2011 with visual graphics of the results. A few statistics to note: 67% of interns were offered a full-time position in 2011, with a 58% conversion rate, in which those interns actually became full-time hires.
Betsy Gregg from Career Services encourages students to find or create internships for a number of reasons. "Students will learn about the field in which they plan to work, gain valuable experience while learning about the office culture, and have the opportunity to use their coursework outside the classroom," says Gregg. And internships aren't just for juniors and seniors; they give all students the ability to find out if their current career path is a good fit.
Students can search and apply for internships online on UW-Superior's web-based recruitment system, Jacket Jobs. Career Services is also open all summer long to assist students with exploring their career path, and effectively searching and applying for internships and jobs.
