On Thursday December 2, UW-Superior came together to celebrate with the 5th Annual Winterfest.  The Winterfest celebration saw numerous changes this year, including the addition of the Yellowjacket Union as a host venue.  Another major change was the role that students played in planning and executing this large scale community event.   Students were more actively involved in all aspects of the events this year, from start to finish.   Using student leadership to coordinate the event, students are able to learn a great deal about event planning, coordination of volunteers, soliciting sponsorships, and event management. 

While these skills may not seem necessary to a biology or art therapy major, the common theme is working with people.  Students are required to communicate with internal and external constituents to ensure that this program will be a success.   Planning for Winterfest starts just as soon as the event wraps up, marking boxes for next year, counting how much food was served, and of course, evaluating the most recent Winterfest to ensure that next year is even better!

The amount of time and effort that goes into planning and executing Winterfest is tremendous.  Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers and a handful of dedicated staff members, Winterfest was again a successful event.
