Shanda Ledin, a Social Work major here at UW-Superior graduating in December of 2012 was offered an internship at the Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault (P.A.V.S.A) in Duluth, MN. P.A.V.S.A is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending sexual violence in southern St. Louis County by helping area residents cope with the aftermath of sexual violence. Services vary from awareness campaigns, to immediate crisis intervention and long-term counseling. At P.A.V.S.A. Ledin will be doing multiple tasks including advocating for victims of sexual assault as well as educating the community on sexual assault.

Ledin learned about this incredible opportunity from her social work professors here at UW-Superior, and credits them as well as other student services on campus including Career Services and Student Support Services for contributing to her success.

Ledin is glad that she sought help from Career Services when applying for the internship, "More than once, Career Services looked over my resume, cover letter and references and gave me very helpful suggestions to make my job application more specific and also helped me make my application more appealing to employers."

Ledin also feels that her hard work, management, and organizational skills were major factors that helped her land this opportunity with P.A.V.S.A. Ledin encourages Yellowjackets to be ahead of the game, "Whatever you need to do, whether it be for work for a class or a job, do it early. Do not procrastinate."

Congratulations, Shanda!
