Teaching Abroad: From Wisconsin to Korea

Sociology alumna, Betsy Gregg, gets the opportunity of a lifetime teaching English in Korea. Betsy heard of the opportunity to teach abroad from a friend and fellow sociology major who is also teaching abroad.

What helped Betsy land this job?

Betsy attributes her success to her vast network, the UW-Superior Career Services office, the degree she obtained at UW-Superior, and her TEFL Certification. She also says the independent research and planning she completed before leaving the country has paid off immensely!

What advice does Betsy have for other students?

“If you want to work abroad, research and apply early…” Betsy says it took her six months to get everything set up from researching opportunities to weeding out the scam companies.

How did Career Services help Betsy?

“Career Services allowed me to build professional experience as a student worker and staff member. Kathy (Pykkonen) also assisted me in critiquing my resume and preparing me for the interview.”

Congratulations Betsy!
