Michelle Gutsch graduated from UW-Superior in May 2010, and is now going to graduate school in Alaska!
After obtaining her undergraduate degree majoring in biology with a minor in chemistry, she is now pursuing a Master's of Science in Fisheries degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
Michelle learned about this program through the advisor of her REU internship in the summer of 2009, and through her success at UWS was accepted into the graduate program.
Michelle feels that the job and classroom experiences she had at UWS adequately prepared her for graduate school. She worked three to four jobs almost every year of her undergrad and took on a challenging course load. After all that hard work, life in grad school actually feels comparatively easier to her!
Current UWS students looking to achieve success like Michelle has should heed her advice to take on as many opportunities as possible while an undergrad.
"Even if you think you are not at one of the 'top' schools, it is what you make of it. I made the most of my experience at UWS and it has led to a successful graduate program, which will hopefully lead to another successful graduate program, and finally a successful job that I have always wanted."
Congratulations to Michelle, and good luck to her in the rest of her academic and professional career!
