About GEARS
GEARS stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness in Superior. Our program began in August 2009 after the University of Wisconsin-Superior was awarded a KnowHow2Go grant from UW-System. A partnership was developed between staff and administration at UW-Superior and the Superior Middle School to create what is now the GEARS program.
- 13 UWS college mentors and 21 Superior Middle School students participated in GEARS during spring semester 2010.
- 32 UWS college mentors and 60 Superior Middle School students participated in GEARS during fall semester 2010.
- 95% of GEARS students improved their grades in at least one core academic area.
- 50% of GEARS students improved their grades in all four core academic areas (Math, Language Arts, Science & Social Studies).
