On September 13th Julie Schmidt, coordinator of UW-Superior's Pre-College Prep program GEARS (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness in Superior), recruited future mentors at this year's Jacket Fest.
Jacket Fest, the annual student involvement and part time job fair sponsored by UW-Superior's Career Services, was held from 11:00am to 2:00pm in the Yellowjacket Union Plaza. During this event students are presented with opportunities to join, apply for, and participate in organizations and programs on campus and in the community.
GEARS is a partnership between UW-Superior and Superior School District that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of at-risk adolescent students and assists in preparing them to be successful in all aspects of life, especially in the pursuit of a higher education.
If you missed this year's Jacket Fest and are interested in applying to be a mentor for local youth, contact Julie Schmidt at jschmi17@uwsuper.edu.
