This semester at UW-Superior there are twenty faculty members that have integrated Academic Service-Learning into their coursework.
A total of 543 students will be participating in Service-Learning this semester, gaining a hands-on approach to grasp the desired course outcomes.
Academic Service-Learning is currently used as a teaching method in twenty-two courses, a 10% increase from last spring. Professors from nine of the twelve academic departments on campus are collaborating with the Center for Academic Service-Learning staff to develop these High Impact courses. For the fall, the participating departments include Art (Visual), Music, and Communicating Arts; Educational Leadership; Health and Human Performance; Human Behavior, Justice and Diversity; Mathematics and Computer Science; Natural Sciences; Social Inquiry; and Writing, Reading and Library Science.
Academic Service-Learning is an innovative teaching strategy that provides students with opportunities to deepen their knowledge and learn new skills by matching academic goals to the needs of community organizations or small businesses. Students apply concepts and skills they learn in the classroom and give that knowledge back to the community.
