Conferences and workshops provide numerous opportunities to learn about AS-L, share your research, and learn from other professionals.These opportunities can be local, national, and international.

Conferences 


April 24-26, 2013 in Portland, OR
Participants at the 2013 Continuums of Service Conference will discuss the role community engagement plays in how we educate for the public good. We will hear from leading thinkers both inside and outside the academy regarding the necessity of civic engagement in educational success. Further, this conference will help define frameworks for how higher education and its partners develop students into effective leaders who advance the public good.

6th Annual Global Service-Learning Institute

The 6th annual Global Service-Learning Institute will build upon established institute strengths in global service-learning pedagogy and program development, while also integrating more explicit attention to best practices in community-based planning, community development, and movement-building within global service-learning. Previous institutes have highlighted encouragement of institutional teams and the opportunity to workshop global service-learning programs during the institute, along with deep collaboration, communication with, and learning from like-minded peers. This year's institute will provide participants with the opportunity to further develop their global service-learning programs - whether they are novice or advanced - and it will also employ structured consideration of the concept of Fair Trade Learning and its associated commitments to community partners and program transparency.

AACU Institute on Integrative Learning and the Departments Faculty Leadership for the 21st Century

The AACU Institute on Integrative Learning and the Departments is intended for colleges and universities interested in building faculty and departmental leadership for advancement of Essential Learning Outcomes-knowledge of multiple disciplines, inquiry and critical thinking, personal and social responsibility, civic learning, global knowledge and skills, and particularly, integrative and applied learning. Today, college graduates must be able to integrate and apply disciplinary and cross-disciplinary learning in new contexts as they seek better and more responsible solutions to problems encountered in work and in society. The Institute is designed to help colleges ensure that their graduates have these capacities.

CWI's Summer EAST Institute on Service-Learning, 2013

Join with colleagues from across North America and beyond, working to embrace service-learning and sustainability within their teaching practice and programs. CWI's Summer EAST Institute on Service-Learning is an immersion in field tested service-learning best practice designed to help K-16 and community educators engage students in contributing to sustainable communities. An intensive five day experience, the Institute provides dynamic workshops and presentations, practical resources and tools, along with veteran faculty support, designed to maximize participant learning and accomplishments.
