Emerging research on the nature of emotional development in young children challenges traditional approaches to behavioral intervention in the pre K- 3rd grad classroom.  Behavior management has given way to emotional regulation as the primary way to approach developmental differences.

This seminar will explore what research in early childhood mental health suggests about emotional development and how best to intervene when emotions are expressed in a manner that do not help the child achieve their goals.

Also discussed are why popular programs, such as PBIS, look good on paper but fail young children.  Strategies for moving away from a discipline based model towards a relationship based model of behavioral interventions will be highlighted.
