Road Scholar is the worlds first and largest education and travel organization for older adults. Road Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Superior offers programs for both local residents and those who wish to travel to our region. Our programs offer an excellent opportunity to learn and to meet new people from all over.

Apostle Islands Exploration
Enjoy a guided exploration of the Madeline Island Museum and a two hour boat cruise on the Apostle Island Cruise Line passing by lighthouses and sea caves, wildlife, and maybe an ore boat or two. Learn about this incredible area from the people who live here and learn about their way of life now and how it was in the past.
Bayfield Area History
Gateway to the shimmering beauty of Lake Superior, the historic world of the Anishinabe Indians and French Fur Traders. This area encompasses Wisconsin's northern woodlands and Lake Superior's majestic shoreline. Visit local museums, shops and just enjoy the beauty of this well known area.

Lives, Lore and Lessons of the Great Lakes
Discover a wealth of local shipping and mining history along Lake Superior. Speak to the director of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Transportation and Logistics Center about the importance, past and present, of rail and ships in the harbor city of Superior and beyond. Learn about mining in the region at historic Fairlawn Mansion, where you glimpse the life of an iron magnate, and on a daylong exploration of the Soudan Underground Mine, once a real working coal mine. Visit the Harvest States grain elevators and Midwest Energy coal yard, then learn more about the shipping on Lake Superior on field trips to the Murphy Oil ship refueling station and the Burlington Northern Railroad Taconite Loading Facility.
