Diabetes is a chronic and increasingly common disease affecting almost 30 million Americans. Currently over 11% of Americans aged 20 an over and 25% of those aged 65 and older have diabetes. Almost 30% of people with diabetes do not know they have it. Diabetes can affect many parts of the body putting people with diabetes at increased risk for complications such as blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke, amputation and even hearing loss. Fortunately many cases of diabetes can be prevented or managed to reduce the risk of complications. At the 17th annual Head of the Lakes Diabetes Update participants will learn the most current trends in treatment, prevention and self-management.

Professionals start the full-day conference with a keynote presentation by Dr. Michael Slag, Endocrinologist, on the past, present and future of diabetes care. Throughout the rest of the day they will learn about Diabetes Distress, hearing loss related to diabetes, balancing weight loss diet recommendations with ADA recommendations, self-management programs available to their patients in the community, diabetes prevention, and the right insulin for the right patient.

During the afternoon, community members, especially people with diabetes or pre-diabetes and their families, are invited to attend three workshops to help them manage their diabetes themselves, get more out of their visits to their health care provider, and get their questions answered by a panel of diabetes experts.

Both CMEs and CEUs will be awarded.

MD, PA, NP, CDE, PharmD & DPM - Full day $130

All other professionals (CEUs) - Full day $110

In the afternoon, we are offering a workshop for people with diabetes and family members at no charge as long as they pre-register.
