Since the fall semester of 2007, The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning has provided an orientation and training series for new faculty.  The series begins during the Opening Week of the fall semester with two half-days.  It continues in the third week of the fall semester with weekly sessions on Thursday mornings, 8:00-9:45 a.m.

The series includes campus presenters who participate and share ideas and expertise with new faculty members.  Topics covered include:

• introduction to the campus and faculty support services,
• student demographics,
• liberal education initiatives and the liberal arts mission,
• the teaching portfolio,
• quality teaching and learning,
• assessment,
• governance,
• scholarship,
• successfully completing tenure and promotion,
• academic advisement and
• other issues related to new faculty. 

The fall sessions conclude with a Celebration Breakfast hosted by the Provost.  Additional spring sessions may be offered to cover topics as needed. 

Each year the series is refined and re-designed by CETL and a team of "veteran" NFO series completers so that it is relevant to current higher education issues and faculty needs.
