Degree Audit

A plan for graduation must be completed after your individualized major has been approved.  The signed Degree Audit must be on file in the Registrar's Office by the time you have earned 83 credits.  Failure to do so will result in a "hold" being placed on your next registration.  This audit includes all course work that must be completed to meet the general university, individualized or elementary education major/minor, and graduation requirements as stated in the catalog of entry or exit.  The document does not constitute a legal and binding contract between you and UW-Superior.  You can request this form from the Distance Learning Center or it can be downloaded and mailed/faxed to your advisor.  Note:  If you are an Elementary Education student, you must forward a signed "degree progress" form to your advisor (this form is available in E-Hive).

You may be graduated either under the catalog of entry (except for mandatory legal changes) or the current catalog.  If you are transfer student, you may select the pertinent catalog of entry, which corresponds with the academic year in which you started at the previous institution.  The maximum time frame between a catalog of entry and a catalog of exit is seven (7) years.

Graduating with Honors

Academic honors eligibility is based on both the Resident GPA and the Total GPA with your having a minimum of 30 Resident credits.  (Total GPA is determined based on all transfer and resident work.)  You must earn the minimum GPA at each of the levels of distinction listed below in both computations (Resident and Total GPAs).  Academic honors will be recorded on the final transcript for you if you have earned a minimum of 30 resident credits in residence, with at least 27 of these credits graded with letter grades, and if you have earned the GPA listed below:

  • Summa Cum Laude, 3.850 and above;

  • Magna Cum Laude, 3.600 to 3.849; and

  • Cum Laude, 3.400 to 3.599.

At commencement ceremonies, if you are graduating with honors you will wear honor cords with the academic gown and will be recognized in the program.  If you have graduated prior to the term in which the commencement is held, the commencement honors will be the same as those recorded on the final transcript.

If you are enrolled in your last registration when commencement is held, you must have earned a minimum of 15 semester credits in residence prior to commencement and must be enrolled in a sufficient number of credits to total 30 resident semester credits by the end of the commencement term.  A minimum of 27 of these credits must be graded with letter grades.  The honors categories for commencement are based on the grade point average listed above.

Catalog of Graduation

You may graduate from either their catalog of entry or their catalog of exit.

Application for Bachelor's Degree

The Application for Bachelor's Degree must be completed at least 3 months prior to the date that you plan to graduate.  The fee for this is $25.00.  This fee does not cover the cost of academic apparel for the commencement ceremony.

All course work must be submitted to the instructor within four weeks after the end of the anticipated term of graduation.  If this deadline is not met, your name will be removed from the term's graduation list and you will be required to reapply for graduation.  The Registrar's Office will not place your  name on any future graduation lists unless you file a new degree application and graduation fee.

Commencement Ceremony

UW-Superior conducts two formal commencements each year in December and May.  Individuals completing their studies in August are invited to participate in the commencement ceremony the following December. A cap and gown must be worn by each graduate at commencement and may be purchased in the University bookstore.  Contact the bookstore for the cost of the cap and gowns.  To participate in the commencement ceremony, a student must have completed or be currently enrolled in courses which complete all graduation requirements.

You must have all work submitted to the instructor within four weeks after the end of the anticipated term of graduation.  If this deadline is not met, your name will be removed from the term's graduation list and you will be required to reapply for graduation.  The Registrar's Office will not place your name on any future graduation lists unless you send a new degree application and an additional $25 application fee.

You are not officially graduated until all grades have been received in the Registrar's Office and your record has been reviewed and cleared for graduation.  This process takes four to six weeks after the end of the term.

After the graduate has been cleared, the degree granted will be included on the transcript.

Diplomas will not be released if the student owes money to the university.  Visit the Registrar's website for additional Graduation Information.
