Here's the good news -- most of the courses for the elementary education major can be completed online.

(Note: Students are required to complete their student teaching requirement in Wisconsin, or adjacent areas of Minnesota traditionally served by the University of Wisconsin - Superior.)

Online Elementary Education Degree Features

Elementary Education Specialty Areas via Distance Learning

Each Elementary Education major completes a teaching minor as part of their degree program. The following minors can be completed through UW-Superior's Distance Learning Center:

  • Library Science - initial school library media certification
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Special Education Minor without Certification (Adaptive Education/Supplemental Teaching Minor)

Elementary Education Distance Learning Degree Details

The Elementary Education Distance Learning Degree can be completed primarily through online studies.

Students are expected to complete their student teaching requirement in K-12 schools near their local area during regular school hours. Two required courses in Health and Human Performance must be completed in Superior and are offered concurrently each summer in a three-week block.

Students must also travel to Superior for a student teaching interview, a student teaching orientation, and three one-day student teaching seminars. All students are required to complete a semester of fulltime student teaching arranged through the 's Office of Field Experiences.

UW-Superior's Teacher Education Program offers a challenging curriculum, involving work with children in your local community and as a student teacher or teaching intern.

The program prepares students for licensure in Wisconsin and is acceptable for licensure in many other states.
